My grandfather and his brother both served in the nd airborne division and jumped into normandy unfortunately my grandfathers brother was killed in action a tree hit by german artillery fell on him

My uncle parachuted into Normandy on DDay. He was also involved in the Battle of the Bulge where he was an aide to Gen. McAuliffe, the general who, when told by the Nazis to surrender due to being surrounded, replied quotNutsquot. My uncle was in the next room, heard what was said, and said the general said something far dirtier than that however, the newspapers of the day couldnt print it and so substituted Nuts instead. They were soon rescued by Patton and his troops. My uncle won two purple hearts, returned to the states and proved the purple hearts were no fluke by becoming my babysitter I was a very, very bad babywomen were all afraid of me and no mere man could have withstood the abuse I doled out. In those days it took a true hero to put up with me.
